Message from the President
Thank you all for attending the 2011 CTUG Fall Conference! This year's conference was all about the expanding role of NonStop servers in today's modern enterprise architecture and about how the legendary NonStop attributes of fault tolerance and linear expandability make it the platform of choice for global business operations.
The main CTUG Sessions included keynote speaker Rob Lesan of AOL, who gave us an indepth look at how AOL upgraded, modernized and migrated a large authentication application on to the NonStop with little cost and no downtime.
We also heard from Randall Becker of Nexbridge with a talk entitled "Resiliency in The Cloud - Making Certain You Are Not Subject To Someone Else’s Disaster".
Finally, Randy Meyer of HP, brought us up-to-date on all the latest technology, information trends, and direction for the HP NonStop Enterprise Division.

Rob Lesan, AOL Inc.

How AOL upgraded, modernized and migrated a large authentication application on to the NonStop with little cost and no downtime.
The global nature of the Internet has driven the need for 7x24 availability into every aspect of the enterprise. Downtime means loss of revenue, loss of confidence, loss of customers. More and more flexibility, scalability and availability are expected without question. By leveraging HP NonStop technology with advanced replication software, the enterprise can now respond to even the most rapidly changing requirements without foregoing features, functions or missing a single transaction.

Rob Lesan is a 20+ year NonStop veteran currently managing more than 40 systems handling all of AOL's authentication and legacy email. He lives in Northern Virginia and is the current president of the Mid Atlantic Tandem Users Group. He manages to keep things together working as a systems administrator, systems programmer, DBA, and application developer. He has worked in NonStop industries from telecommunications to finance. He and one other person manage all of AOL's NonStop assets.

HP NonStop Update
Randy Meyer will provide the latest news from the NonStop Enterprise Division. He will provide an update on the state of the business, key new customers and wins, and on NonStop's continued drive towards a standard, modern hardware & software architecture.

Randy Meyer leads the Product Management, Strategy and Technology team for the NonStop Enterprise Division. This team drives the overall strategic direction for the NonStop product family, works with enterprise customers and partners to architect, integrate, and test solutions that take advantage of HP NonStop servers, and provides technical education to field support staff.
With more than 22 years experience in the computer industry, Mr. Meyer has held a variety of technical, financial management, product management, and marketing management roles.
He originally joined Tandem Computers in 1986 in product management, and returned to the company in 1997. Among other positions in the startup world, he was Vice President of Business Development for NetFRAME Systems, a high-end network server manufacturer.
Mr. Meyer holds Bachelor of Science (Economics) and Bachelor of Arts (Computer Science) degrees from the University of Minnesota and a Masters in Business Administration from Cornell University.
Day 2 – CTUG Education Session
Quick HP Integrity NonStop Application Migration

This one-day course provides you with the information you need to convert your applications to run on the new Integrity NonStop systems. The course starts with an overview of the new hardware architecture and then covers program migration information for each of the main languages.
Other topics include the debuggers that are available on the new systems including the new Native Inspect debugger, the new linker, and the Enterprise Toolkit (ETK).

Command Stream Replicator and FileSync - They Replicate Everything that Replicators Don’t!

Mr. Holenstein has direct responsibility for the Gravic Inc. Shadowbase Products Group and is a Senior Fellow at Gravic Labs, the company’s intellectual property group. He has previously held various positions in technology consulting companies, from software engineer through technical management to business development, beginning his career as a Tandem (HP NonStop) developer in 1980. His technical areas of expertise include high availability designs and architectures, data replication technologies, heterogeneous application and data integration, and communications and performance analysis. Mr. Holenstein holds many patents in the field of data replication and synchronization, writes extensively on high and continuous availability topics, and co-authored Breaking the Availability Barrier, a three-volume book series on advanced application availability architectures. He received his BSCE from Bucknell University, a MSCS from Villanova University, and is an HP Master Accredited Systems Engineer (MASE).

Encrypting NonStop Backups using Enterprise Key Management
Vendor: ETI-NET Inc.
Securing backups is critical for NonStop systems managers. Use of virtual tape subsystems adds to the challenges. Encryption is the primary tool for protecting both data-at-rest and data-in-motion, but it can be compromised
if a robust key management approach is not used. Approaches for S-series as well as NS and NB-series systems will be discussed, with use of HP’s Enterprise Secure Key Manager (ESKM) as well as the emerging KMIP standard.

Mr. Lussier was working in the Banking industry on different Canadian interbank systems before joining ETI-NET the first time in 1986. When he joined ETI-NET he worked on the initial Product Development team. He left ETI-NET to work in lottery, gaming and manufacturing industries in
Montreal.
In 2005 he came back to ETI-NET as Vice-President of Research & Development. In the past 25 years he has developed software on numerous platforms including
IBM MVS. Tandem NonStop, Windows, Linux and QNX.
